second transmission from distant worlds comes courtesy of derek carr (for those that knoe, where we met, why so series). his music has been turning heads since the turn of the millenium but only in the last few years has he been getting the recognition he deserves. his productions have a timeless, celestial quality and reward multiple listens, there is always a hint of subtle beauty about his work and this is no exception. scisor and wraith are built for the club whilst fading fast and sunrise in system will work equally well in a club or for home listening. more than a nod to detroit in these productions but all unmistakeably carr productions.

we liked so much the output from pol004 that we decided to put together another split ep. this time with house heads ewan jansen and derek carr. artwork comes from brazil based visual artist beatriz corneiro.

captain derek carr joins into the deep forces through its third intergalactic journey. the gifted man is well known for his unrivalled sound incursions in the early 00 s. in command of the expedition, derek unveils a classy 4 titles ep blending his detroit-influenced trademark sounds, lush synths, electro syndrome & droning basslines. it results in a futuristic journey by convoying us to a rave somewhere on mars before the dawn.

astral dust is a 4 song excursion bridging the styles of derek michael and marshall applewhite. this project stems from a live recording of a set performed by michael in 2002. after being tucked away for almost 15 years, the recording was found and sent to applewhite who dissected the performance into fragments and breathed a new life into them. while some portions of this release are distinctly sludgy, the majority is a perfect amalgamation of both michaels and applewhites hard-edge, melodic borderline idm styles. the digital release will feature 2 digital only sub cuts from the sessions.

derek carr joins subwax with a fine 4 track warm sounding ep, this one is carrying all of derek s quality trademarks and here he proves once again he is the man of the moment.

in 2001 derek launched his own label ‘trident recordings’ and released the ‘copper beech e.p.’ (the only release to date) a collection of deep soulful techno, it has since become something of a collector’s item. subsequent releases on ‘digital soul’ headspace nice & nasty and ‘geek records’ further cemented carr’s place amongst a new generation of techno producers that looked to combine soul and melody with electronic dance floor grooves. the ep entitled distant systems is a musical adventure for a quest for a new home land, a new planet, a new start, it is proper techno, proper melodies , beats and pads for this adventure. derek is a master at creating thoughtful emotive and simply wonderful techno that fits in so naturally on firescope records

this record tells the story of a detroit groove from the perspective of the speaker, taking you through time from luomo s to the hardware syst3m parties, and the first leaky warehouse roof no way back where dean syst3m worked the door, with all the disrespectful nature one would naturally expect from a true detroit groove. created by two veterans of detroit grooves, bmg & derek plaslaiko, who now calls berlin home, in bmgs studio in the center of detroit. this song celebrates some of the out there characters and crazy cowboy outlaws that made this detroit scene happen on the underground level, that made such an impact that is still felt around the world today.

you can never go home is about the first time derek went to berghain. actually, it was his first time in berlin, may have been his second day only and after a certain point he had been there for quite a while. his friend didnt want to leave and she had the keys and on top of it only she knew where they lived, so he couldnt leave but eventually it turned out he didnt want to go home

erol sarp and lukas vogel are grandbrothers. all their music is composed and recorded on the grand piano. erol plays the keys, while lukas creates the beat by using small self-made and programmed hammers that hit the grand piano. he captures these sounds on the computer, then manipulates and loops them.

derek kaye married his schoolboy passions of music and electronics in 1973 when he constructed his first disco sound system, aged just 13. prior to this, with dj equipment something of a rarity in those days, he created a custom setup that bypassed the need for a mixer by rewiring his turntables in such a way that he could flip the sound from one deck to another, and installed a switch that would dip the music so a microphone from a portable cassette player could be used to announce the song on rotation. his work soon grew in sophistication and a new console was built, with his schoolmate, greg wilson, buying derek s old rig, thus beginning his own well-documented dj career.
